How the Caribbean Food Groups Differs from the Food Pyramid

Look at the Caribbean and the American Food Groups. In what ways do they differ? Do you think that we in the Caribbean eat healthier than the Americans?

Knowing our portion size could help in making healthier food choices.

What are your comments on the topic and on my statement?

    1. if you examine both diagrams you would see that the foods we eat on a regular basis are called staple foods which we in the caribbean refer to as ground provision or fibrous food which is rich in fibre and other antioxidants while the food piramid staple section is called bread, cereals, rice and pasta. most of these are processed foods. So which would be healthier?

  5. The food group might be similar, but we Jamaicans utilize mostly the pasta, rice, breads and not so much the healthier staples. It might have been so years ago, but with globalization and the importation of several starch options, there has been a shift in how and what we consume. They need to revise this food group list.
